All month, we have been writing into difficulty — the containers that didn’t fit, the forms that couldn’t hold us, the documents that got us wrong. That kind of writing takes courage. It asks us to stay inside uncomfortable experiences long enough to find the truth in them, and to trust that the page can hold what other people couldn’t.

Therapeutic writing research consistently shows that this kind of expressive work is most powerful when it moves toward finding our own internal peace — not a forced resolution so often imposed on us for being good, but a genuine, authentic resting place. This week, we arrive at one. We are not wrapping things by turning toward what is gentle, what is kind, and what has always been ours.
