There is something unmistakable about the love that forms between an Autistic person and our special interest. For many of us who travelled through childhood and adolescence without the words that might have steadied us, this devotion became the first place we felt understood. It shaped our days without needing permission. It held its own kind of order when the wider world felt bewildering.

To write to that presence now is to honour the truth that carried us through the years when we thought we were strange or difficult or impossible to follow. It is to acknowledge how something outside the human tangle made room for our whole selves long before we were ready to name those selves. These letters belong to that shared understanding, the one we could never quite explain at the time, but always returned to in the quiet, when nothing else felt certain.
