In this episode Dr Angela Kingdon speaks to Simon Scott as she concludes our journey through the 10 Pillars of Autistic Culture, with Pillar 10: Passionate Superfanning
I just discovered your podcast and I’m immediately a fan! Can’t wait to dig into past episodes!
I came here to add some suggestions to your list — you gotta do a show on the Beatles! Beatles fans are extremely autistic, so obsessive, so much collecting, so much history, and endless weird subcultures and side quests. Plus the boys themselves, well there’s definitely a conversation to be had about how much they align with the pillars.
Also Survivor! Just had a huge viral moment with the first out autistic person on the show but absolutely no doubt there have been many more before her and the whole show is so autism coded in so many ways.
One of our long time listeners @Louise Lomas has given me GREAT info for a Beatles episode which we absolutely MUST do next season, hopefully with Louise’s help! @Simon Scott lives in Liverpool (and has family on Penny Frickin Lane!) So yes yes yes Izzy we are going to make this happen.
The Survivor episode is also coming in a very very very weird way. It will be combined with Bob Geldof and Live Aid…. Do you know why?!?!?!? If not, stay tuned because I’m going to BLOW. YOUR. MIND!
Hi, coming back here after listening to many episodes to say two things. First, thank you so much for this wonderful podcast! I'm feeling so seen and experiencing so many amazing revelations. I haven't been on this journey long but there's been a lot of doubting and imposter syndrome along the way and your podcast is truly the first thing that has made me feel that I can confidently say I am autistic. Thank you!
Second, very exciting to hear that there's plans for an eventual Beatles episode! I really haven't been able to stop thinking about it and I can come up with endless examples of their personalities that align with autistic traits, Paul in particular (from my limited understanding of Taylor Swift, the two of them are VERY similar, if that helps give you an idea!). If you do use listener submitted research and need more info, I am so serious when I say it would be my pleasure to help.
Oh and I have no idea what the Live Aid connection to Survivor is, very intrigued!
I wrote to y'all more than a year ago about my passion for professional wrestling. You need to have a show about wrestling! My (autistic) daughter and I are intense wrestling fans. I find wrestling so comforting to my autistic brain; there is no subtext; you always know what's happening. It's theatre, athletics, so many things. PLEASE do a show about pro wrestling! FYI, I am a rabbi, my daughter is an IT person. thanks for reading

@Simon Scott does talk about it on episode 151 but we are expecting a full wresting episode in the autumn when next season kicks off!
