Tell Me About Your Special Interests 🦕
The Autistic Culture movement just got more wearable. Autistic humor, pride, and resilience — now on t-shirts, totes, pins, hoodies, mugs, and more.
If you follow this newsletter, you know Autistic culture has always been here - long before acetaminophen! You can find it in our humor, our passions, our data hunger, and the unique ways we see the world. But for far too long, Autistic identity has been hidden under layers of stereotypes, stigma, and silence. No matter what bad news you are hearing, remember the push back is because our efforts ARE WORKING. Perceptions of autism and neurodivergence are changing in books, podcasts, classrooms, and academic work. What and where it’s safe to do so, I believe we need to celebrate and remind ourselves of how fun to do that, so I’m relaunching our Autistic Culture Merchandise Shop with some great designs that do just that!
This October, we’re celebrating the official launch of my book Am I Actually Autistic? (also on Amazon), our new season of the Late Diagnosis Club podcast (coming on Halloween!) and new designs on the The Autistic Culture Merch Shop. From loud and proud t-shirts and hoodies to tote bags, easier to conceal stickers, magnets, mugs, and pins, every design in this collection was created to spotlight the wit, strength, and style of Autistic identity.
And here’s the best part: the entire store is on sale all month long in October. This is the moment to wear the movement — to step out in designs that tell the truth about Autistic life, that make people laugh, and that spark recognition when someone else sees you wearing it and says, “Oh, you too?!”
For Autistic people, expression doesn’t always come easily in conventional ways. Small talk? No thanks. Masking? Exhausting. But graphic design, visual humor, and sharp text on a t-shirt? That’s a language we understand, right? I can’t tell you how many strangers have become friends because I connect with their hat or hoodie. Clothing and accessories give us a way to show identity without needing to explain ourselves over and over. They give us shorthand for our passions and our truths.
Designs like these are more than just merch, they’re cultural markers. They connect us to each other, they affirm our differences, and they take what could feel isolating and turn it into pride. Every piece in The Autistic Culture Merch Shop was built around the cultural values we’ve been naming in 10 pillars of Autistic Culture podcast series: deep interests, direct honesty, rhythmic communication, and that sharp sense of humor that helps us survive a world not designed for us.
My point is, this isn’t just shopping. It’s cultural participation. It’s resistance.
The October Sale
Autistic people are constantly told to blend in, hide, or tone down. These designs say the opposite: stand out, speak up, and let your culture be visible. Wearing Autistic culture is more than fashion, it’s a pathway to potential connection. It’s a signal to others who share your experiences, a reminder that you’re not alone, and a conversation starter that doesn’t rely on small talk.
When you put on one of these designs, you’re not just wearing a shirt or carrying a tote you’re joining a movement to make Autistic life visible, proud, and cultural. And if that isn’t safe, consider getting a sticker you can put somewhere only you can see because claiming your identity is still powerful and important.
The re-launch of The Autistic Culture Merch Shop comes with a full-site sale all October long. When you go to the store you will see certain designs highlighted but each design is on over a dozen different products. Check out the albums for different design themes like Burnout, EDS, and late diagnosis. and check the different products where you can see your favorite designs. Shirts, mugs, magnets, stickers, shorts, hats, pins, posters, mugs, tote bags, pillows, hoodies — everything is discounted, and everything carries a piece of Autistic culture with it.
So this is the moment. This is the movement. Browse the collection. Pick the designs that feel like home to you. And step out wearing the movement.
