I'm a bitter old man, 63, who after spending a lifetime failing in employment and relationships am now living off of social security and feeling completely isolated from the scientific and career progress I should have been a part of. I got my official dx at 58. I'm completely stuck and blocked from any kind of success because it seems the more successful people on the spectrum are just too embarrassed to be associated with me. Damn right I'm angry!
I wanted to let you know that I linked this article in my latest post and ensure you are OK with that? It should direct people here. If you would like me to remove that section, I will happily do so. I just found this so meaningful, I wanted to share.
If you come to our live Wednesday meetings there are people in the community who do body doubling and share creative works with each other. It's a paid benefit but if you email Admin@AutisticCulture.co.uk we can get you a free 7- day trial so you can come to a call for free and meet people.
I often reflect on the Foucault concept of identity when wrestling with what it means for me to be Autistic. Foucault suggests, "the relationships we have with ourselves are not ones of identity, rather they must be relations of differentiation, of creation, of innovation." A concept of identity that is a mile away from deficit, but instead is culturally generative.
Miika I love your train of thought 🙃 Have you read the article on identity by Terra Vance? (or was it Tanya Adkin? 🫣 ) Sorry, if I mix it up. Can’t search for it right now. Will have to look it up on Neuroclastic.
It’s a good perspective on nd-identity. imho.
Also the YT- video of “The autistic thought spot”(I think-again sorry for just being able to point in a direction instead of providing correct names/Links) about “Ego death” was very enlightening all around thinking about identity for me. 👍
Love this and wonder if my latest piece resonates?

I'd appreciate that, since I'm on govt assistance.
Thank you yet again for opening my eyes. This is the first I have heard of this framework.
Beautifully written 💚
A fabulous overview. Many thanks.
