I have always loved strategy games. Games like chess, but also computer strategy games. StarCraft was one of my favorites growing up but I also really enjoy 4x games like Stellaris and the Civilization series. I haven't watched Mythic Quest but I've added it to my list to check out :)
Here's a topic idea for you all. I know you did a Star Trek episode all ready, but I would love you all to dive into Star Trek Lower Decks. It could be a great update episode or a full episode. If you all do, make sure to watch the most recent season.
One character that I would highlight is T'lyn but also Tendi and Rutherford. There is a whole episode focused on whether or not T'lyn is truly Vulcan and helping her accept who she is. Here's a quote from that one -- keep in mind at this time the crew's emotions were heightened:
"T'Lyn, I hate to say it, but your previous crew were a bunch of *bleep*ing idiots. You're one of the most brutally efficient, distant people I have ever met."
"Really?
"What was your captain's name?"
"Sokel."
"Man, *bleep* Captain Sokel! What, you saved their lives, so he kicks you off the ship? Where's the logic in that, huh?!"
"It does seem like a disproportionate response to a minor character flaw."
"There is no character flaw! Can you imagine anything more Vulcan than Bendii syndrome? Hello?! I mean, Spock's dad had it, and he was Vulcan as a mother*bleep*er!"
"Hmm. I suppose by the transitive property, I too must be Vulcan as a mother*bleep*er."
"*bleep* yeah! Logic, bitch!"
- Mariner and T'Lyn
In another episode Tendi and Rutherford are having a conflict and they end up bonding over the fact that both of them like dealing with emotional conflict through scientific experimentation.
Those are just a couple of fun examples. But I love the lower decks crew and their interactions. I fully believe that some of the characters are part of our culture and I think the show in general embraces elements of Autistic culture. Especially when you look at how the characters have changed over the four seasons.
Fun and goofy show that gets better every season. I would love you all to dive into it in a podcast episode.
I'm not a gaming autistic but fascinated by the description of Poppy Li who seems wonderful from YT clips. I used to be a computer programmer for which the landscape of Mystic Quest seems very familiar with the divide between the priorities of the techies and the business heads. Actually I choose programming as I thought it would have little to do with people which couldn't be further from the truth.😂 And I love Angela's origin story of email which I didn't know about.
Poppy's development with the shovel reminds me a lot of the time when I would go to the MacMoria shop and look for picks and shovels to dig into the various walls of the dungeons and caves.
One COULD use the pick/shovel as a weapon but it would be a Bad Idea [if only because you couldn't get hit or damage points].
[the points for the picks and shovels are how they dig or how deeply/efficiently/effectively they dig].
MacMoria would also be my answer to "What was the game which made the most impact on you".
It was the first time, for example, I saw a character sheet which could be made [pseudo]-randomly.
Shanghai is another - the rainbow-coloured symbolic tiles.
Learning Company games - especially Think Quick! and Challenge of the Ancient Empires. And OutNumbered.
Home of the Underdogs and the world of abandonware and retroware - a lot of my gaming memories were about 10 years old or so in 2003 when I discovered Home of the Underdogs.
And then the Internet Archive grew and grew.
I found MECC games I had not been able to play when I was younger.
The world of Twitch did make me feel like a gamer for a year or two [April 2019-March 2020].
I would follow Farm Simulators and fast and furious typists. And lots of Simpeople and Sims 4.
