Listen now | In this episode, Matt and Angela—joined by Jess Lewis—dive into the complexities of MCAS, exploring its links to autism, POTS, and the healing potential of functional medicine.
It's very funny because when I was younger I was thinking about myself as an alien (then I discovered the 10th Doctor ahahahahahaha !) and that I was born without the instruction manual... Now each episodes make me want to scream because THIS IS IT ! (Guess I have to talk to my mast cells now...)
This post showed up just days after I set a doctor's appointment to ask my doctor about MCAS, so this was an amazing coincidence for me.
I began researching it due to my PMDD, and how many people have felt relief from these symptoms by taking antihistamines like Zyrtec and Pepcid. I began taking Zyrtec and my PMDD almost disappeared. Then, I researched further, finding out that this means that it's more likely to be PME, in this case that it's often something like MCAS that's making pre-menstral symptoms much more severe. After that, looking into MCAS and how many symptoms line up, I have started searching for more answers.
Thanks to this episode, I have more resources to bring to my doctor.
Histamine waxes and wanes every day but, for women, it also can be highly variable depending on where in your cycle you happen to be. Everyone is a little different so understanding your hormone cycle can be useful. Have you tried eating low histamine foods or mast cell stabilizing foods?
FYI I have a patient guide that could be a helpful resource when you chat with your doctor. subscribepage.io/patientguide

What until you dig in deeper. So much is tied to MCAS - it's wild. Glad you enjoyed the episode!
