Welcome to the Autistic Culture Substack.
Hi, I’m Dr. Angela Kingdon, the Linguistic Autistic. I’m a late-diagnosed autistic woman, a cultural psychologist, ghostwriter, bestselling author, writing teacher, host of the Autistic Culture podcast, and founder of the Autistic Culture Institute.
I created Autistic Culture because I was tired of the medical model being the only story. Autism isn’t a disorder—it’s a neurotype. And when you see it that way, something powerful happens: you start to understand your story, your patterns, your passions… and your people.
This space is for late-diagnosed and self-identified autistic adults who are done trying to “fix” themselves and are ready to write, reflect, and reconnect.
We do that through podcast episodes, weekly writing contests, our virtual writing circle, and identity work rooted in cultural insight, not pathology.
My mission is to establish Autistic Cultural Studies as a recognized field that centers autistic experiences, narratives, and identities. By fostering research, education, and community engagement, I aim to shift the perception of autism from a medical condition to a rich cultural identity.
Join us in celebrating the extraordinary minds, and unique contributions, of our Autistic “family members” across history. I’ll be your sassy, fun-loving guide as you journey with me into the values, traditions, and norms of “Autistica”—all of which, tie back to the one thing that we all have in common: the monotropic focus of our hyper-connected brains.
This project is a self-funded labor of love. To keep it sustainable, we offer free, paid, and Autistica Guardian memberships:

The Neurodiversity Movement is a rapidly growing, global effort to have neurodiversity recognized as a natural and beneficial form of human diversity. Having people with lived experience centered in all public conversations is viewed as critical to the mission of expanding true understanding and ending oppression.
Autistic Culture is rich, diverse, and nuanced. Like any culture, autism has art, music, mannerisms, dress, language, rituals, food, and yes—podcasts! By exploring our Autistic heritage and our “family tree,” we provide insights to bridge the “double empathy” gap between autistics and allistics, to make the world a safer and happier place where people of all neurotypes can thrive.
Angela has been featured by the Association for Autism and Neurodiversity From Community to Culture: Valuing the Autistic Identity, Autscape, Autistic Minds, the Neurodiversity Show, and at the Autism Symposium at Sunriver Resort, Oregon.
